Robert Cruikshank – Trade Cross
Coin silver (or "fine silver") cross fashioned by Robert Cruikshank, a Canadian silversmith who provided silver to the early trading companies like Hudson Bay and Astoria in the late 1700's. Metal was a new material for Native Americans, and thus a valuable trading tool when trappers were acquiring goods and furs. Cruikshank crosses are extremely collectible. This one has a buckskin string with early Peking Blue glass trade beads. Wonderful. Marked with the RC stamp, and chisel engraved.
